What are works

“Faith without deeds (works) is dead.”

One of the most debated verse in the bible. What did Paul mean?

There are two main opinions among scholars.

1.     Those of Martin Luther and similar, who believe Jesus died for our sins, therefore “WORKS” are un necessary to enter the kingdom of heaven.
2.      Those in the Apostol of Peter, believed to be the brother of Jesus, who  claimed;

Uno de los versículos más debatidos de la Biblia. ¿Qué quiso decir Pablo?

Hay dos opiniones principales entre los académicos.

Aquellos de Martín Lutero y similares, que creen que Jesús murió por nuestros pecados, por lo tanto, las “OBRAS” no son necesarias para entrar en el reino de los cielos.

Los del Apóstol de Pedro, que se cree que es el hermano de Jesús, que afirmaba;.”

I am inclined to follow the words of Peter. Simply having true faith in one’s heart, in my opinion, only completes part of our commission as given by Jesus before his assent to sit at Gods side.

Me inclino a seguir las palabras de Pedro. Simplemente tener verdadera fe en el corazón de uno, en mi opinión, solo completa parte de nuestra comisión dada por Jesús antes de su asentimiento para sentarse al lado de Dios.

I don’t need to site every mention of caring for the widows and orphans in the scripture. I don’t need to recite the great commission. We all know them. However, both of these are WORKS we are expected to perform. Peter, knowing this is as important as the commandments delivered by Moses, repeated this before his martyred death.

No necesito ubicar cada mención del cuidado de las viudas y los huérfanos en las Escrituras. No necesito recitar la gran comisión. Todos los conocemos. James introduced the truth about faith and works in James 1:22: “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”

Santiago introdujo la verdad acerca de la fe y las obras en Santiago 1:22: “No os limitéis a escuchar la palabra, y así os engañeis a vosotros mismos. Haz lo que dice”.

In simple words, GO OUT and DO these things. Not for public acclaim, but in a pure and joyous heart, that you may be deemed worthy in the kingdom. You can’t do these acts to get INTO the kingdom. But your worthiness will be judged by your obedience and joy in your (His) works.

En palabras simples, SAL y HAZ estas cosas. No para aclamación pública, sino en un corazón puro y alegre, para que puedas ser considerado digno en el reino. No puedes hacer estos actos para ENTRAR en el reino. Pero tu dignidad será juzgada por tu obediencia y gozo en tus (Sus) obras.

James 1: 27  Pure and undefiled religion before god and the father is this: to visit the orphans and the widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

Santiago 1:27 La religión pura e inperfiesta ante Dios y el Padre es esta: visitar a los huérfanos y a las viudas en sus problemas, y mantenerse sin mancha del mundo.

MacArthur explained, James suggested non-saving, dead faith had three marks: empty confession (v. 14), false compassion (vv. 15-16), and shallow conviction (v. 18). In contrast, James then offered illustrations of living faith in verses 21-26.

MacArthur explicó que James sugirió que la fe muerta no salvadora tenía tres marcas: confesión vacía (v. 14), falsa compasión (vv. 15-16) y convicción superficial (v. 18). En contraste, Santiago luego ofreció ilustraciones de fe viva en los versículos 21-26.

By faith;………….Abel offered god a better sacrifice;………Noah built an arc;………..Abraham went into the unknown.  By faith, I have left my home and traveled to aid the orphans and widows affected by COVID.  That is what God always expects of His transformed children. Believe in Him, trust Him, and then do what He says. Trust and obey.

Por fe;………….Abel ofreció a Dios un mejor sacrificio;……… Noé construyó un arco;……….. Abraham entró en lo desconocido. Por fe, he dejado mi hogar y he viajado para ayudar a los huérfanos y viudas afectados por COVID. Eso es lo que Dios siempre espera de Sus hijos transformados. Cree en Él, confía en Él y luego haz lo que Él dice. Confía y obedece.

Among many things Christ-followers might do are: feed the hungry (Matthew 25:35), be generous to the needy (Proverbs 14:31), meet practical needs (1 John 3:17-18), visit orphans and widows to help them (James 1:27a), guard against greed (Hebrews 13:5a), and keep their lives from the sinful “stains” of the world (James 1:27b).

Entre muchas cosas que los seguidores de Cristo podrían hacer están: alimentar a los hambrientos (Mateo 25:35), ser generosos con los necesitados (Proverbios 14:31), satisfacer las necesidades prácticas (1 Juan 3:17-18), visitar a los huérfanos y viudas para ayudarlos (Santiago 1:27a), protegerse contra la codicia (Hebreos 13:5a) y mantener sus vidas de las “manchas” pecaminosas del mundo (Santiago 1:27b).

God who began a good work in us through faith, will complete it—and we are blessed to cooperate with Him and demonstrate His good work through our good works—deeds the Lord “prepared in advance” for us to do (Philippians 1:6; Ephesians 2:10).

Dios, que comenzó una buena obra en nosotros a través de la fe, la completará —y tenemos la bendición de cooperar con Él y demostrar Su buena obra a través de nuestras buenas obras— obras que el Señor “preparó de antemano” para que las hagamos (Filipenses 1:6; Efesios 2:10).

As we go forward, give us your prayers, send us your thoughts, help us help others in need of God and life’s river.  I have money for my family. Every penny goes to the orphans and widows in aid and assistance. God knows your heart. Let our works be your works.
